About Christel

Bonjour! I’m Christel, a native French speaker and exam specialist. I help GCSE students build total confidence, master complex grammar, and unlock Grade 7–9 results. Because French is my first language, your child will hear natural, accurate French and learn the exact expressions and intonations examiners look for: transforming the dreaded GCSE Speaking and Listening exams from a source of anxiety into easy marks.

I understand exactly how teenagers learn best. In my current pastoral role, I mentor young people aged 16 to 24, and I have previously worked as a qualified Teaching Assistant in UK schools supporting pupils of all abilities.

As a published children's author, I love creating lively, engaging resources tailored specifically to the AQA and Edexcel syllabi to make learning enjoyable, patient, and highly effective.

My qualifications & safety checks: • Enhanced DBS Certificate (Fully verified) • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification • Master's & Bachelor's Degrees (Domuni / Angelicum University, Rome) • Higher School Certificate (Cambridge A-Level including French)

Originally from Mauritius, I grew up completely bilingual in French and English and have been living in England since 2011.

I look forward to helping your child achieve the best possible grade in their GCSE.

À bientôt!

About the lesson

Our first meeting is a Complimentary 30-Minute GCSE French Diagnostic & Speaking Audit.
This is a highly valuable, structured session where I will evaluate your child's current speaking and listening confidence, identify their specific exam board, and map out exactly what they need to achieve a Grade 7, 8, or 9.

We will discuss how the lessons work, agree a schedule, and answer any questions you or your parents may have. This ensures every paid hour moving forward is 100% tailored to their needs. My lessons target all four core GCSE components with a premium, native-speaker edge: •

️ Speaking: Intensive preparation for role plays, photo card descriptions, and general conversation. I focus heavily on natural pronunciation and spontaneous phrasing so students sound confident to the examiner.
• Listening: Immersive practice using authentic audio to train the ear to catch subtle grammar traps, tenses, and speed changes that non-native speakers miss.
• Reading: Analysing a variety of texts to rapidly expand advanced vocabulary and master comprehension strategies.
• ️ Writing: Crafting high-scoring, well-structured answers using complex tenses, varied opinions, and sophisticated connectives to hit top mark-scheme bands.

Beyond the Lesson: Grammar and vocabulary are built into every lesson step-by-step.

As exams approach, we pivot heavily to official past papers and strict mark-scheme analysis. After each session, I set targeted, short tasks to reinforce learning. I provide detailed, encouraging feedback on all homework so progress is visible week-over-week.

We will also run regular short reviews to adjust goals alongside parents.

Availability: I am available on Mondays and during weekend afternoons. If these times do not perfectly match your schedule, please send me a message and I will do my absolute best to accommodate a time that works for you.

I've known Christel for many years, and she is a natural teacher. French is her mother tongue, and she has a real gift for explaining things clearly and patiently so that learners feel confident rather than overwhelmed. She has worked with children and young people for years, as a Teaching Assistant, a Nursery Practitioner, and now in parish education, where she plans and leads sessions for all ages. She is warm and encouraging, very well-organized, and she cares about each learner making real progress. I would recommend her without hesitation to any student who wants to build their speaking, listening, reading, and writing for GCSE.

I’ve known Christel for a number of years - we studied together on a Masters course where she was constantly the inspiring one in the tutorial discussions. She has taught children with much success (they always love her) in a number of different schools and is also a leader of adults in her church community, organising many projects for old and young. She has been engaged in translation work at parish level, being fluent in English and French. I have no hesitation in recommending Christel as a top-class teacher.
