About Sophie

My rigorous training as a native speaker in the French school system, as well as my own passion for learning languages, make me an engaging and detail-oriented teacher who can adapt to all ages and levels of French. I have been tutoring since the age of 16 (six years) and enjoy working with students of all ages. I know how frustrating languages can be, and my goal as a teacher is to make the language feel more approachable to you. Everyone is capable of learning French, regardless of age or past experience!

I recently graduated from Wellesley College ('22) with a BA in Visual Studies. I am currently pursuing a career in documentary film and journalism in NYC, and hope to use languages in my work.

About the lesson

Kind and patient, I will adapt my teaching to you. In my own experience with languages, I've found that conversation is the best kind of practice! No matter how old you are and what your level is, I will encourage you to express yourself so you're prepared to use French in the real world.

I like to cater to my students' interests by focusing on subjects they're passionate about. I include videos and news articles in my lessons to make them more engaging for the student. Having graduated high school with a literary Baccalaureate (Bac Général L), I have extensive knowledge of French novels and poems that I look forward to sharing with my students.

Spelling and grammar have always come easily to me; I know that French is notorious for its tough grammar, but I can assure you that we can tackle it together! I'm a very visual learner and like to use this in my lessons; images, color-coded notes and flashcards are essential in my teaching.
