About Julie

I am a native French speaker born and raised in Paris. At age 15 I was thrown into the deep end of second-language learning as I started English secondary school... without being fluent in English. From this experience I have derived:
-Foolproof knowledge of how to improve your language skills, fast.
-A detailed map of all the secret shortcut bridges between English and French. Let me show you around.

I have expertise in vocal technique drawing from both Speech Science and voice coaching for live performance. I love using that unique blend to help my students grow confidence as they build their conversational skills and transform their accent over time!

I am a triple UCL graduate with a background in Neuroscience of Motor Control and Speech Science, with teaching experience ranging from 1:1 tutoring to academic lecturing.

I am also trained in vocal technique for performance (Linklater method) and voiceover/dubbing.

About the lesson

I offer two main types of lessons: French language (writing, speaking, listening comprehension, French literature), and accent reduction (English to French and French to British English).
Both types of lessons include mystery calls, during which you get to practise your conversational skills in situ, with a range of typically French characters and situations!
You can absolutely have a mix of both types of lessons, especially if you are studying French and would like to improve your spoken voice.

My accent reduction technique is based on two pillars: phonetics, the science of how anatomy and physics come together to make speech sound the way it sounds, and voice work exercises from theatre practitioners and voice coaches (Linklater technique). I am a native speaker of French who started learning English at age 15 and achieved unusual native-standard proficiency in English, getting hired as a public speaker and an actor in English. If you're interested in improving your fluency in French no matter where you're starting from, or in having more control over your French accent in English, I can show you how I've done it.

The French language lessons are tailored to your level and needs, my technique emphasises vocabulary expansion as the gateway into proficiency.

Lesson format:
55min - tailored to your specific needs and level upon assessment, will always involve reading comprehension, writing, conversation and listening comprehension

includes a 5min mystery call (usually at a different time than the main session), during which I will simulate a real-life situation (admin process, appointment etc.,) that requires you to hold a phone conversation in French. Situations will vary and draw upon different characters with a variety of French regional accents :) This is a fun way of raising the stakes to get your conversation skills going!
