About Barbara

I was born in Germany and went to a grammar school where I took my A-levels in German, English and Social science. In 1987 I got married to an Englishman and moved to the UK. I have worked both in science jobs, as a translator and as a German tutor in a secondary school and privately.
I am still learning French myself and love travelling and using my language skills in other countries. I find it makes life so much richer to speak several languages and therefore to get to know people in other countries much better, as it enables us to understand their mentality and culture and to engage on a deeper level.

About the lesson

I am passionate about languages myself and really enjoy teaching German. I like to make my lessons both engaging and fun, as I know from my own experience how important it is for a student to feel at ease but also animated in a lesson. My lessons are tailored to my student's specific requirements and I try hard to explain German grammar in a way that is easily understood, giving examples and working on various exercises with the student. I like to talk about German culture, mentality and values, also topics like the environment and policies and even German humour (does it exist?)
