About Estée

Hi, I’m Estee, native Korean speaker based in Melbourne, currently studying Psychology at Monash University.

I’m interested in the quiet details of communication: why one word feels warmer than another, why a sentence sounds too formal or too intimate, why humor changes across cultures, and how language carries emotion, identity, and social distance.

My background and interests are shaped by both Korean and English-speaking cultures. I’m drawn to psychology, philosophy, film, music, art, fashion, and aesthetics. Especially the subtle emotional atmosphere behind them. I love Korean and international cinema (nouvelle vague mostly) niche and experimental music, jazz, electronic music, art museums, and philosophical questions about the mind, identity, beauty, and self-expression.

This is also how I approach teaching. I do not see Korean as just grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Korean is a language full of tone, rhythm, hierarchy, softness, humor, affection, and restraint. I enjoy helping students notice those details and understand why something sounds natural, awkward, poetic, polite, casual, or emotionally different.

As someone who studies psychology, I care about how each person learns and expresses themselves. Some students need structure, some need conversation, some need cultural context, and some learn best through films, music, or personal interests. I like adapting lessons to each person rather than teaching everyone in the same way.

My lessons are relaxed, thoughtful, and personal. I want Korean to feel less like a subject you have to memorize, and more like a language you can slowly inhabit. Language is a way to understand culture, people, and yourself more deeply.

My lessons are personalized, friendly, and focused on real Korean — not just textbook grammar. I can help with Hangul, pronunciation, grammar, conversation with slangs, Korean culture, K-drama/K-pop expressions, travel Korean, homework support, and natural everyday speaking.

Because I’m bilingual in Korean and English, I can explain Korean clearly in English while helping you build confidence speaking Korean step by step.
