About Yufang

How would you like a friend along the way in your language learning journey? Well here I am! I moved from China to Canada 11 years ago and when I talk with people, they can barely tell my accent from locals - I told you I have a special talent with languages ;) Mandarin is not as hard as others say it is, you just need to know the right tools, and I think I might have a few of those. I fully believe that for this learning partnership to work, we need to understand what is working and what is not - we will work on our feedback-sharing secret code to ensure that you can voice your concerns at any time!

About the lesson

I believe learning Mandarin should feel fun, practical, and accomplished. My lessons focus on helping students actually learn Mandarin in creative ways, rather than feeling stuck memorizing words or rules.

I will often incorporate:
Skits adapted from viral Chinese shows and reels so students understand when and how to use what they learn;
Fun games with lots of speaking practice in a low-pressure environment;
and obviously the fundamentals such as vocabulary lists, clear explanations for tones and sentence structure (no overcomplicating things)

I will conduct regular review/quizzes so students don’t forget what they’ve already learned. And based on the student’s age, level, and learning style, we can work on customizing a plan.

A typical lesson will be structured but relaxed:
Quick warm-up: review previous content or a short conversation
New material: introduce new words, phrases, or characters in context
Practice time: speaking, reading, or writing together with guidance
Apply it: pre-given skit topics for guided role-play, homework help, or everyday conversation practice
Wrap-up: recap what we learned and set simple practice goals

As an ENFP, my greatest strength is empathy. I’m patient and encouraging, especially with beginners. I have a huge passion for languages and accents, I want to help people feel that by learning a new language, they gain a new tool to view the world in a different perspective.
