Hello! I am Winnie, a dedicated Postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh. As a native Mandarin speaker with a deep-rooted passion for linguistics and education, I moved to Edinburgh to pursue my advanced studies, and I am excited to share the beauty of my mother tongue with this vibrant community.

My academic journey at one of the world’s top universities has not only refined my communication skills but also instilled in me a high level of professionalism, patience, and cross-cultural insight. I understand that learning Mandarin can feel like a daunting mountain to climb, especially with its unique tones and characters. About the lesson

My Methodology: Immersive, Interactive, and Tailored I believe that learning Mandarin should be more than just memorising characters; it is about discovering a new way of thinking. My teaching approach is based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method. I focus on:

Real-life Scenarios: We will practise conversations you’ll actually use, whether for travelling, business, or daily life.

Scaffolded Learning: For beginners, I break down complex tones and grammar into manageable "building blocks."

Cultural Integration: Every lesson includes a "Culture Minute"—sharing the stories behind idioms, festivals, or modern life in China to keep your interest high.

Typical Lesson Structure & Length A standard lesson is 60 minutes, though I can offer 90-minute intensive sessions upon request. A typical 60-minute session includes:

Warm-up (5 mins): Reviewing previous concepts through a quick chat.

Core Learning (35 mins): Interactive introduction of new vocabulary and grammar using multimedia materials.

Active Practice (15 mins): Role-play or situational exercises to build your confidence in speaking.

Feedback (5 mins): Summarising progress and setting fun "mini-challenges" for the week.

My Qualifications & Experience I am currently a Postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, which ensures my academic rigour and professional communication skills. As a native speaker with a deep passion for my language, I have experience helping friends and students navigate the difficulties of Mandarin tones.
