About Shan

Hi, you guys can call me Jenny! I am a native Chinese speaker and have been teaching Chinese in Australia since 2016. My own cross-cultural journey has given me a deep understanding of what it takes to learn a new language—not just as a set of rules and vocabulary, but as a living key to a new world of ideas and connections. I teach because I am passionate about sharing the language and culture I call home. There is nothing more rewarding than guiding a student from their first “nǐ hǎo” to holding a confident conversation, understanding a movie’s punchline, or expressing a thought naturally in Chinese. That moment of “getting it” is what inspires me every day. In my classes, we focus on practical communication, clear pronunciation, and cultural insight. I believe learning should be encouraging, relevant, and tailored to your personal goals. I’m here to build a supportive and engaging learning path with you—one step at a time.

About the lesson

Stage 1: Foundation Building (Approximately 1-3 Months)

· Goal: Master the Pinyin system and basic sentence patterns, build confidence in pronunciation, and be able to engage in minimal daily conversations.
· Core Content:
· Phonetics: Gain proficiency in initials, finals, tones, and tone change rules. Focus on pronunciation correction through extensive listening discrimination and imitation drills.
· Grammar: Learn the basic word order (S+V+O), question forms, negation, and commonly used measure words.
· Vocabulary: Acquire 150-200 high-frequency words (greetings, numbers, time, family members, everyday objects).
· Teaching Methods: Situational dialogue imitation, command-based games, picture card matching, and Pinyin songs.
