About Liu

Hi! I’m Michelle I’m a native Mandarin speaker and an ANU law graduate. I currently work full-time in the legal field during the day, and I tutor Mandarin in my spare time because I genuinely enjoy helping people learn.

I’m professional, friendly, patient, and easy-going, and I like to keep my lessons relaxed and comfortable rather than making them feel like a formal classroom. Whether you’re starting Mandarin from scratch, want to become more confident speaking, or need help with school or IB Chinese, I’m happy to tailor lessons to you and your goals. I’d also love to get to know you and make our lessons something you actually look forward to!

About the lesson

My teaching techniques and methodology:
I tailor each lesson to the student’s level, goals and interests. My lessons focus on practical communication, pronunciation, vocabulary and building confidence in using Mandarin naturally. I use a combination of conversation practice, structured exercises, reading and writing activities, and personalised feedback. For students preparing for school or exams, I can also adapt lessons to their syllabus and assessment requirements.

Typical length of a lesson:
Lessons are usually 1 hour, although longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs and schedule.

My qualifications and experience:
I am an ANU Bachelor of Laws (Honours) graduate and a native Mandarin speaker. I completed the IB Chinese A Higher Level and achieved a 7/7. I have experience tutoring Mandarin and Chinese to students with different levels of proficiency.

Who my lessons are for:
I offer Mandarin lessons for beginners to advanced learners, including primary and high school students, university students and adults. I can help students improve their everyday Mandarin, pronunciation, speaking, reading and writing, as well as support students studying Chinese as part of the IB or school curriculum.
