About Freya

I am a second-year Applied Mathematics student at the University of Liverpool, originally from Shandong, China. Beyond my studies, I have 4 years of professional training in Mandarin broadcasting and presenting, and hold Level 10 — the highest certification issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China.

Throughout my school years, I served as a broadcaster at my school radio station in both middle school and high school, and have participated in numerous broadcasting and presenting competitions across China, achieving excellent results. These experiences have given me an exceptional command of standard Mandarin pronunciation, tonal accuracy, and spoken fluency.

I am patient, encouraging, and passionate about helping others discover the beauty of the Chinese language. I believe language learning should be an enjoyable journey, and I always tailor my teaching style to suit each individual student's needs and goals.

About the lesson

My lessons are suitable for all levels and ages, from complete beginners to advanced learners, whether you are a student, a professional, or simply someone passionate about learning Mandarin.

Each lesson is fully personalised to the student's goals and current level. For beginners, I focus on building a solid foundation in pronunciation, tones, and basic vocabulary. For intermediate and advanced learners, I emphasise fluency, grammar accuracy, reading, and writing skills. I also offer conversation practice for those who want to improve their spoken confidence.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes and can be conducted online or in person in Liverpool. I use a combination of structured exercises, real-life examples, and interactive conversation to make learning engaging and effective. With my professional broadcasting background, I place particular emphasis on correct pronunciation and natural speech patterns, which are often the biggest challenges for Mandarin learners.

I have experience tutoring students of various backgrounds and always create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.
