About Maria

Hi! I’m María José, a native Spanish speaker from Colombia currently studying Economics and Public Policy. Growing up bilingual and in a multicultural environment has made me passionate about languages and communication.

I’ve always enjoyed helping others learn, and I have previous experience tutoring children through a tutoring initiative I co-founded. I love seeing students become more confident as they learn something new, and I want my lessons to be a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improving at their own pace.

I’m particularly passionate about Spanish because it is more than just a language, it is a way to connect with people and cultures across the world. As a Colombian, I can also introduce students to Latin American and Colombian expressions, culture and everyday Spanish.

Whether you are learning Spanish for school, university, travel, work or simply for fun, I would love to help you enjoy the process and achieve your goals!

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed, interactive and tailored to each student’s goals and level. I focus on practical Spanish, with plenty of conversation and speaking practice, while also working on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing when needed.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but I can adapt the length depending on the student’s age and needs. I have previous experience tutoring children and supporting students academically, and I enjoy creating an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and building confidence.
I teach beginners through intermediate learners, including children, teenagers and adults. I can also support students preparing for GCSE or A-Level Spanish, as well as anyone who simply wants to improve their conversational Spanish or learn Spanish for travel.
