About Hilary

I am a native Spanish speaker and college student who is passionate about helping others become the best version of themselves through language learning. I enjoy interacting with students and believe that learning is strongest when it is built through conversation, trust, and community. I graduated from high school with a dual-language education and earned the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy. As someone who learned English as a second language, I understand the challenges students face, and I use that experience to guide my teaching with patience and clarity. My goal is to teach Spanish in the same way I learned English, through meaningful interaction, real-life practice, and consistent encouragement. I truly believe that once you unlock a new language, a whole new world opens up, bringing new opportunities, confidence, and connections.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I use a student-centered and supportive approach. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s learning pace and goals, combining conversational practice, guided exercises, and real-life examples. As a native speaker, I focus on correct pronunciation, natural expressions, and cultural context, while also explaining grammar and vocabulary in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.

A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up based on previous material to reinforce learning. Then, I introduce new vocabulary or concepts using examples to encourage interaction. Lessons often include speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice, such as dictation, to build well-rounded language skills. I end each section with feedback and suggestions for improvement, as well as optional practice.

What sets me apart is that I believe in community and learning through conversation. I prioritize creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. My background and certification through the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy are proof of being a learner and having a starting point. English is my second language, and now I live to teach and inspire anyone interested in learning a second language and the abilities that come with it.

My lessons are ideal for beginners and intermediate learners, including middle school, high school, and college students, heritage Spanish speakers, and anyone looking to improve conversational Spanish or academic language skills. I can also support students enrolled in Spanish classes who want extra practice or help preparing for exams.
