About Andres

I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Salamanca, the birthplace of the Castilian language and a historic center for thought, art, and Spanish culture. Born and raised in Madrid, my native language is Spanish, and I bring a lifetime of immersion in its richness.

I work as a professor at the Online University of Catalonia (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), where I teach arts, culture, creative writing, and the Spanish language—all in Spanish. Additionally, I tutor students from around the world, offering lessons online or in person if you're based in New York.

With over 10 years of experience teaching Spanish, I follow a comprehensive methodology that focuses on mastering grammar, vocabulary, listening, and reading comprehension, emphasizing conversation to help students communicate effectively in various situations. I tailor each lesson to meet the personal and professional needs of my students, who come from diverse backgrounds and have unique goals.

My expertise extends beyond language instruction; as part of my doctoral research, I have delved deeply into the cultural and historical context of the Spanish language. My classes are open to learners of all levels and interests, offering a dynamic and engaging approach to exploring the global impact and cultural significance of the Spanish language.

About the lesson

My classes are based on a conversational method and the practice of reading and writing exercises to reinforce what you've learned. We will follow a manual so that you can also practice on your own and do exercises that I will send you between sessions. In addition, we will rehearse everyday situations: Introducing oneself, job interviews, how to handle everyday situations such as ordering food and drinks in bars and restaurants, shopping in supermarkets, traveling, or any situation you want to practice. Dynamic and fun. My lessons are for everybody regardless of their actual Spanish level, I will adapt the classes to your needs. If you are interested in learning about culture in Spanish, I am also the ideal teacher. My classes are usually organized like this: 1. Introduction (5 minutes) Greeting and casual conversation in Spanish to set the tone. Brief discussion of the previous lesson's topics. 2. Conversational Practice (20 minutes) Engage in a guided conversation on a specific topic (e.g., daily routines, hobbies, or personal experiences). Use open-ended questions to encourage extended responses. Correct pronunciation and grammar during the conversation. 3. Reading and Writing Exercises (20 minutes) Reading a short passage or article in Spanish. Discuss the main points and new vocabulary. Writing exercises related to the reading (e.g., summarizing, expressing opinions). Feedback on written work, focusing on grammar and vocabulary. 4. Listening Exercises (10 minutes) Listening to an audio clip or video dialogue in Spanish. (it's important to get used to different accents). Answering comprehension questions related to the listening material. Discussing any challenging phrases or expressions. 5. Practical Situations (5 minutes) Role-playing common daily situations (e.g., ordering food, making reservations, asking for directions). Applying language skills to real-life scenarios. 6. Closing and Homework (5 minutes) Recap of the lesson highlights. Assignment of homework, which may include writing exercises, listening to podcasts, or practicing a specific conversation topic.
