About Mireille

Hi/Bonjour! My name is Mireille. I was born and raised in beautiful Lyon, France, where I studied English in college. Sadly, though, I quickly realized that my language proficiency was limited to reading Shakespeare, and I was ill-equipped when it came to using English the way native speakers do when they want to order a customized latte at Starbucks. There is a difference between what textbooks teach you, and the way people really use their own language!
Fast forward a few years, and I suddenly found myself on the other side of the pond, i.e. teaching French to English speaking college students. After I received my PhD in French and Film Studies from the University of Chicago, I moved to the Los Angeles area, where I became a French teacher. I now spend my time working as a professional French-English translator/interpreter, and as a tutor in Bozeman, MT.

About the lesson

Throughout the years, I have taught and tutored middle school, high school, and college students, as well as professionals who wanted to learn, brush up, or simply practice their French. I really enjoy working with my students and figuring out their goals, whether it is developing conversational skills, walking them through the grammatical intricacies of the language and going over something they're covering in school, or helping them prepare for an exam. I am comfortable teaching every level, from beginner to AP and beyond (I taught AP French for 5 years, and my students all passed!), as well as conversation and literature. I also edit papers and help with job applications and resume writing in French.

The coronavirus is certainly creating challenges and making it more difficult for students to learn, since their regular teachers may not be able to give them the one-on-one attention they used to receive before. Students can cancel anytime up to 12 hours before scheduled lesson. Lessons canceled within 12 hours of scheduled lesson can be charged at 50% of the lesson rate.
