About Ecem
As a foreign language instructor, I worked at several universities in Istanbul, Turkey. For the past one year I have been teaching Turkish to undergrad and grad students at NYU in New York City. I have been teaching elementary, intermediate and advanced levels of Turkish. I am a language learner myself, hence I can understand both the student and the teacher point of view when learning/teaching language. Since Turkish is my native language, I really enjoy teaching the language along with the culture and the fun and necessary nuances in it.

I am a native Turkish speaker who teaches Turkish at New York University (NYU) as a Fulbright scholar. I have 8 years of language teaching experience mostly with university students and with students aged between 8 and 16. I use a communicative approach when I teach language which means I create interactive materials for my classes and try to provide opportunities for students to actually use the language in a given context. For me, it is important to include the culture and the every day language of Turkish speakers in my classes. Hence, I usually create a cultural context with a reading passage, a video or a song, and develop the lessons around that context.
