About Tan
I am a Cambridge Natural Sciences offer holder and A*STAR National Science Scholarship (BS–PhD) recipient, with a strong academic background in Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
I achieved straight As at the A Levels, including Distinction in H3 Chemistry, and have consistently performed at the top level since IP and O Levels. I have represented my institutions in multiple national and international competitions, earning Silver awards in the Singapore Chemistry Olympiad, Singapore Chemistry League, and Singapore Science & Engineering Fair, as well as a Merit award at the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge. I was also a recipient of the A*STAR JC Award.
Having gone through the IP, O Level, and A Level systems, I am very familiar with current syllabi, exam trends, and common pitfalls students face. My teaching focuses on building strong fundamentals, clear thinking, and proper answering techniques—so students not only understand the content but know how to score.
Outside academics, I am a trained musician with Grade 8 in Violin, Piano, and Erhu, and Grade 7 in Music Theory. This background has shaped a disciplined, structured approach to learning, which I bring into my lessons.
I believe in structured guidance, high standards, and clear explanations. My aim is to help students improve steadily and confidently, and to equip them with skills that last beyond examinations.

My teaching philosophy emphasises a thorough understanding of concepts in simple, clear terms before moving on to memorisation. I believe in creating a supportive and encouraging environment that empowers students to achieve their academic goals.
I have a strong background in both teaching and academic success. My passion in learning has allowed me to secure a place at the University of Cambridge and earn silver medals in the Singapore Chemistry Olympiad (SChO) and the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF), as well as the ASTAR Junior College (JC) award. My teaching experience spans from secondary school through junior college, where I have successfully tutored my peers and juniors. Through my guidance, students have improved their grades by at least two grade levels, with many achieving A grades/distinctions.
