The heart of my methodology is to meet language needs by capitalizing on the student's passion. Once I understand the student's level of ability, goals, and interests, I facilitate and moderate by providing meaningful practice and scaffolding the steps to reach realistic language proficiency levels. I am detail oriented and relationship oriented. I am experienced in coaching people to stretch their comfort levels to realize their language learning ambitions.
I love people and the outdoors. That passion as fuel, along with a science degree and my Bilingual Teaching Credential, have provided me a joyful living as an educator in 3 states. I have helped hundreds of elementary students learn the basics to become fluent speakers, readers and writers in English (and Spanish.) These discoveries guide my teaching: 1. Language is best acquired through motivating social activities like music, movement, theatre and science...anything that increases natural, relaxed practice. 2. We study a second language because we want access to the culture, the people, the LIFE that expresses itself through that language. 3. Our brain complies by growing new pathways and a new language center to accommodate that desire.
