About Samantha

Hi! My name is Samantha, and I am a certified social studies teacher with over 12 years of classroom experience working with middle and high school students in a variety of academic settings. I am passionate about helping students build confidence, strengthen their academic skills, and reach their full potential.

Throughout my career, I have taught courses including AP World History, AP Psychology, U.S. History, Government, Comparative Government, and Sociology. I also have extensive experience preparing students for Advanced Placement exams and Maryland state assessments (MCAP). My background in both rigorous AP coursework and college preparatory classes allows me to support students at many different learning levels and academic goals.

I have worked with students across a wide range of learning needs and abilities, including students receiving special education services and students with diverse learning profiles such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, Tourette syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, autism spectrum disorder, and other individualized learning needs. I also have experience supporting English Language Learners and understand the importance of adapting instruction to meet each student where they are academically and emotionally.

As an educator, I believe every student can succeed with the right support, encouragement, and strategies. I pride myself on being patient, approachable, organized, and adaptable to each student’s individual needs. Whether a student needs help understanding content, improving writing skills, preparing for exams, or developing better study habits, I work to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and effective.

In addition to my teaching experience, I am National Board Certified, which reflects my commitment to professional excellence and high-quality instruction. Families and students can expect a professional, encouraging, and dependable learning experience focused on growth, communication, and academic success.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I focus on building confidence, critical thinking, and real understanding—not just memorization. I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing academically. My goal is to help students strengthen both their content knowledge and their study skills so they can succeed independently in the classroom.

My teaching approach is highly interactive and student-centered. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use guided practice and real-world examples, and adjust my instruction based on each student’s learning style and needs. I also emphasize organization, writing strategies, and test-taking skills to help students feel more prepared and less overwhelmed.

A typical lesson usually begins with a quick review of previous material and identification of any areas of confusion. From there, we work through new content together using structured notes, discussion, practice questions, and targeted feedback. I often incorporate strategies such as graphic organizers, document analysis, writing frameworks, and review activities to make learning more approachable and effective.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive classroom experience and ability to connect with students at different skill levels. I am a certified social studies teacher with over a decade of teaching experience, including Advanced Placement and college preparatory courses. I have taught subjects including AP World History, AP Psychology, U.S. History, Government, Comparative Government, and Sociology. In addition, I have experience helping students prepare for Maryland state assessments (MCAP) by strengthening reading comprehension, analytical writing, source analysis, and test-taking strategies. I understand how to scaffold instruction for struggling learners while also challenging advanced students to think critically and analytically. I also prioritize communication, encouragement, and building strong relationships with students and families.

My lessons are ideal for middle school, high school, and introductory college students, particularly those taking courses in U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Sociology, Psychology, or AP-level social studies courses. I also support students with writing skills, DBQs, SAQs, essays, study strategies, standardized test preparation, and AP exam preparation.
