About Bry

Hi, I'm Bry! I am a 22-year-old neurodivergent tutor and mentor from Nottingham, UK. I do subject-specific tutoring for Biology, Psychology and Sociology and am available for one-off or continuous mentoring such as study skills, university applications, and navigating SEND provision. I welcome learners of all ages. I have experience with SEND and Pupil Premium students, and I strive to make my tutoring as accessible as possible for everybody involved, working alongside both my students and their families to understand how I can best support their needs. I understand the struggles of having learning difficulties in education and I hope to make all of my students feel welcome and comfortable while achieving the best outcomes they can.

About the lesson

I am a firm believer in tailoring each and every session to my students' needs. I can provide sessions between 45 and 90 minutes in length to ensure that all aspects of my students' learning are covered, without losing focus with overly long lessons. I have experience with utilising EHC plans and actively work alongside families to develop my understanding of my students' needs.

A typical session for me is not just about the educational material. I find that dedicating 5 minutes at the beginning of each session to casual chatting helps to build a good relationship and trust between myself and my students, as well as giving me an idea of how they may be feeling and tailor my session to accommodate that. I ask that my students send me an outline of the topics they wish to cover at least an hour before our session so that I can have my materials ready to avoid wasting time, especially since I know how expensive tutoring can be for lower-income students.

As someone who struggled with a lack of support for my own disabilities in school, I am able to bring an empathetic approach to my sessions and I am willing to go the extra mile to ensure all my students get the best possible outcomes from my tutoring and mentoring, regardless of any additional support needs. I am not afraid to admit if I need extra help, and have a network of tutors that I am comfortable referring to if I feel like I cannot adequately support a student by myself. I have a degree in Education and Psychology and 3 years of tutoring and mentoring experience.
