About James
I have years of experience tutoring students, both within my school system and independently. I got a 1550 on my SAT and a 35 on my ACT, and got into NYU in a year that had a record low acceptance rate (~12%).
More importantly than those numbers, I'm an older brother to four younger siblings. I have lots of experiences with kids (in my family and not), and have tutored, babysat, and nannied. My career goal is pediatric neurology, so I'd love to continue working with kids and teens.

I've tutored students for may years, including a variety of ages and subjects. I prefer to meet students where they are with their understanding, and work on their fundamental concepts, rather than having them be "good enough" on each subject. A typical lesson will depend on the student. If they are struggling with a specific topic, we'll first review basics of that concept, and then move on to the types of problems they're expected to master. I let the student choose the pace at first, because they know where they are with the material better than I will.
I understand that each kid learns differently, and needs something slightly different from me. Some students need high energy and enthusiasm to get them excited for a topic, while others need a more quiet and focused tutor to make them comfortable and engaged. I am very adaptable, and am eager to meet the individual needs of any student.
I teach math, science, social studies, or English at any level, from elementary school to high school.
