About Laura
I have recently completed my PhD in Neuroscience at The University of Nottingham and looking to continue supporting the education of students through tutoring.
My academic background:
- A-levels: 3A's in biology, chemistry, maths (2013)
- First class Neuroscience Undergraduate degree, University of Nottingham (2016). Awarded highest overall mark for each year of my undergraduate degree and highest mark overall in the School of Life Sciences upon graduation
- Masters of Research (MRes) in Neuroscience, University of Nottingham (2017)
- Recieved Endowed Award – Andrew Hendry Prize, University of Nottingham Tri-Campus Awards to recognise the accomplishments and contributions of some of the most outstanding postgraduate researchers (2021)
Outside of own education and scientific research I enjoy taking on opportunities to work with and support the education of students. During my Master's and PhD I regulary designed and delivered science outreach activities on behalf of the Nottingham Branch of the British Science Association as well as volunteering at the Nottingham central centre of IntoUniversity, academically supporting pupils aged 11-16 with various subjects. These have been very rewarding experiences and I am keen to use my knowledge to support and inspire the next generation of scientists!

Over the last 5 years I have regularly supported the teaching in practical classes and have recently delivered lectures for undergraduate neuroscience students. Feedback from the students including: 'She explains the topic thoroughly and easy to understand. She is extremely supportive in the practical session and very understanding, patient and very kind' highlights my positive teaching style.
My approach to tutoring will be personalised depending on the students' needs, but overall I aim to promote understanding of the content in an enagaging and interactive manner.
