About Lucas
I'm a Panamanian guitarist/composer and recent Berklee College of Music graduate currently residing in New York City. I spent two years studying under the mentorship of master jazz guitarist Adam Rogers while studying at New York University, and went on to explore a variety of styles with mentors at Berklee such as Matt Stevens, Berta Rojas, Nate Radley, Nir Felder, and Alain Mallet.
I have experience mentoring students as a former teacher at the Danilo Pérez Foundation and through my own private mentoring. Through these teaching experiences, I have found that growth is fostered most effectively by understanding each student's personal musical tastes and circumstances and building a personally-tailored path which blends the student's goals with the necessary fundamentals. Few things in life are as good for the soul as music, and I hope I can help inspire in you a fun and fulfilling journey of learning!

I teach guitar from a broad musical perspective, combining the discipline of jazz with experience in classical guitar, rock, and Panama’s indie music scene. I believe strong fundamentals should give you more freedom, not restrict what kind of music you can play.
Lessons are tailored to the student’s goals and level. We might work on technique, harmony, improvisation, ear training, repertoire, reading, or simply learning how to make the music you hear in your head come out of the instrument. I also place a strong emphasis on listening and understanding why something works, rather than just memorizing shapes and exercises.
My own path has taken me from rock and metal as a kid, through classical guitar and jazz, to performing and composing in a variety of settings. I teach beginners through advanced players, and especially enjoy helping students build a strong foundation while developing their own musical identity.
