About Tobi

I work as a professional trumpet player since 15 years and as a trumpet teacher since 9 years. I got a Master's Degree in music, specialized in the trumpet and the trombone. I did my studies at the “Prince Claus Conservatorium” in Groningen (The Netherlands) and at the “Queen's College” in New York City, where I studied with (among others) Wynton Marsalis and Wycliffe Gordon.
These last years I have been traveling around Europe with different groups and formations of Salsa, Jazz, Reggae, Ska or Pop, on the trumpet and / or the trombone, as a soloist as well as lead trumpet player in Big Bands. I work as a studio musician, composer and arranger for theaters. I live in Barcelona and enjoy giving lessons.
I can teach in Spanish, English, German or Dutch as well.

About the lesson

In my classes, the focus is on technique. Because I play both the trumpet and the trombone and I neede to build up a very good technique on each of the instruments in order not to hurt my lips which is what I am teaching in my classes as well.
The correct technique is the base to master the instrument well and so that you can play whatever you want. During my Master's studies, I researched for a long time to find the correct way to master the instrument, as it was necessary to be able to play not only the trumpet, but also the trombone.
However, I do not want to force "my" way of playing on you. That is why the objective in my classes is to find "your" way of playing by offering you many well-known techniques from which you can choose yours.
During the process of building the foundation for playing I present you music of different styles such as classical music, pop, film music, jazz, etc.
Once you have already built up the basis we can work on other things, such as interpretation, improvisation and much more.
In the end the important thing is to help you be the trumpeter that you would like to be.
