My approach is to keep it simple and direct the lesson towards what the student is struggling with. I like to use the scaffolding method (steps 1 & 2 may need some repetition):
- First, the student watches me complete a task while explaining each of the steps.
- Second, the student and I complete the task together, with verbal direction, and even sharing the mouse if necessary.
- Third, the student completes the task independently.

Perfect! Not everyone proficient in AutoCAD is capable of teaching it. Thank goodness for Tamera! Anyone struggling to learn this not-at-all intuitive program, specifically as it pertains to interior design, should not hesitate to reach out to her. I was finding myself incredibly frustrated in class but thanks to Tamera's methods (and only after two lessons), it's actually starting to sink in. She's super sharp and impressive resume and real industry experience is invaluable for turning the theoretical into the practical.
