About Stella

In my work as an Editor, I build safe, creative spaces based on mutual respect, trust and clear communication. I am sensitive, honest and encourage directors to be bold and ambitious in realising the vision for their films. I understand how to honour their intentions and retain their voice, but I have never been afraid to suggest how best to strengthen the storytelling. Alongside co-writing three successful films (Heatwave, Lift Share, Holloway) I have extensive experience of reading and critiquing scripts, pitch proposals and treatments. I believe that I offer an insightful assessment, finding the strengths and originality of the idea with a critical eye on where improvements might be made. I am methodical, quick, and good at hitting deadlines. As someone who has seen ideas develop from log line to world premiere, I have a strong overview of what it takes to make a compelling story with emotional resonance. For the last three years I have worked as a visiting tutor at the NFTS. I support students with their films at all stages, from conception, through development, production and into post-production. I love nurturing the critical, curious, and courageous minds we need to navigate our way through complex futures, creating meaningful and vibrant dialogue across cultural, political, and geographic boundaries. There have been a few key teachers throughout my own education who encouraged my artistic expression and really shaped my life. I have found much personal enjoyment and satisfaction from being on the other side of that relationship.

About the lesson

Or an experienced editor looking to develop your narrative and technical skills... Whatever the curiosity, our one-on-one tutoring sessions can be personalised to your unique needs. Whether you are working or aspiring to work in the film industry, I am here to help you navigate this creative path, honing your skills at your own pace. Looking for constructive feedback on a rough cut? Or help with early-stage script development? My experience as both an Editor and Tutor at the National Film and Television School (UK) should set you up for success. I can help you improve your project's narrative, pacing, and emotional impact by providing thoughtful notes, identifying and supporting you through creative roadblocks, and offering strategic advice throughout the whole of your film's production. This mentoring is open to anyone, from any creative sector, that feels this could be useful to them: from Actors editing their showreels to Artists filming their studio tours...
