About Abhilash

I did my graduation in Mechanical Engineering from NIT. I topped my school and college before getting into NIT. Now I am trying to explore new fields and interact with new people. I believe that I can help students understand concepts and qualify various entrance and board exams.

I prefer teaching concepts from basics rather than mugging or temporary solutions. I have taken this path earlier so I in first hand know how boring and painful it can get if education is forced onto a child. So I think it's better to make them understand and appreciate the concepts by giving real-life examples

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My area of expertise is problem-solving, especially using JavaScript. I started as a Subject Matter Expert - Mathematics and self-taught web development as I have been fascinated by the Internet. Whether it is coordinate geometry or a computer algorithm, I am always ready to solve interesting problems by breaking them down into logic chunks
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I was introduced to the CK-12 curriculum when my cousin brought an iPad from the U.S. The way they explained Mathematics in their digital textbooks changed my perception of Mathematics. I used to think Maths is all about rote memorization of formulae. After reading through CK-12 textbooks I realized that Maths just provides us tools to solve day-to-day problems logically, and efficiently. This incident made a very big impact on me. So, I decided I should help someone change their perception towards Computers and Mathematics.
  • How does your work help society?

I generally focus on teaching a student how to break down the problem into manageable steps. I focus more on a general approach rather than a solution for a particular problem. This helps them become independent learners.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I consider Richard Feynman as one of my role models. I love the way he breaks complex things down into meaningful chunks. Ever since I learned about Feynman, I try to explain whatever I learn to someone who is not in my field. If they can understand the concept, only then do I feel that I have truly understood that concept!
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I spend most of my free time either reading novels or hanging out with friends. Also, when I am at home I like playing with my dog (Jimmi). <3
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

I want to share a recent incident that happened to me. Lately, I have been writing blog posts on JavaScript, trying to simplify some of the complex terms. Yesterday, I received a mail from a random internet stranger saying that one of the articles helped him a lot in understanding the topic and said that I'm making this world a better place. That made my day!
