About Matthew
I am a fourth-year Northwestern undergraduate student majoring in American Studies and Legal Studies.
I lived and studied for five months in Santiago, Chile, where I took college-level courses in Spanish alongside Chileans. I have taken multiple upper-level Spanish courses at Northwestern as well.
I worked for two summers at a summer camp in the Michigan called Covenant Point, where I worked extensively with youth between the ages of 7 and 18.

My dad is a high school Spanish teacher at Benet Academy, and I take after his interaction-base approach to teaching. Language is dynamic, and learning a language means much more than memorizing lists of vocab or conjugations. In my lessons, I go beyond merely filling out worksheets by engaging various media and emphasizing the spoken word. I am flexible with regard to specific assignments and learning objectives, and look for creative ways for students to do real learning rather than box-checking.
