About Jaymi

I started violin 41 years ago. I performed with Johns Hopkins orchestra, San Fernando Valley orchestra, and a variety of local groups in various genres. My violin undergraduate studies included a position as a graduate T.A. in music theory and skills.

My studies included rigorous North Indian classical violin and vocal training. (Indian music lessons available by special request.) I teach the Galamian scale system, etudes by Kreutzer, Kotek, etc. I teach standard Western classical repertoire for beginners. My dual-training in Western and Eastern music will enhance violin styles like tango and gypsy-jazz.

Beginners will benefit from my flexible yet structured approach to the violin. Please be prepared to practice daily: This is not optional.

About the lesson

Playing violin is 80% bow and 20% left hand. Learning the basic alignments for the bow can prevent you from giving up violin practice. This will also reduce frustration. I can help you to produce a beautiful tone that makes practicing enjoyable, regardless of your preferred violin style. These techniques apply to them all.
