About Madeline
Hi! I’m Madeline Dyer, a bestselling YA author and Lambda Literary Award Finalist, drawn to dark and twisty stories. I write to understand strangeness and pain and how these operate around ideas of beauty and monstrosity. I am represented by Amy Collins at Talcott Notch Literary.
My academic work focuses around Gothic novels from the nineteenth century to the present day and representations of prehistoric people in literature. I am a current doctoral student at University of Bristol where I am researching Creative Writing.

Have you always wanted to write a novel but don’t know where to start? Or perhaps you’ve already written a couple of manuscripts and now you want to experiment with unconventional structures? Do you want to stretch yourself as a writer and tackle new narrative modes? Or maybe you want to learn more about traditional three-act frameworks because you still dread writing the sticky middle section?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, my lessons can help!
I am a postgraduate researcher at the University of Bristol, specialising in experimental fiction, unconventional storytelling, gothic/horror fiction, crime fiction/thrillers, and young adult fiction. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Kingston University and a BA (hons) in English from University of Exeter.
Your lessons will be tailored to YOU and we’ll cover what will be most helpful for you, looking at where you’re at now with your writing and where you want to be. This may mean detailed critiques of your work, workshopping scenes, or one-to-one lessons on things such as character creation to pacing, plot development to commercial structures. We can also look at editing and how to get a manuscript ready to send off to agents, along with how you can maximise your chances of getting agent interest in your work.
