About Victor
I am an NUS graduate with First Class Honors in Applied Mathematics and Second Upper Honors in Computer Science. I later completed a PhD in Computational Biology at NUS under the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship.
My academic background has given me a strong foundation across mathematics, statistics, computing and scientific problem solving. What I enjoy most is understanding ideas from first principles and finding simple ways to explain concepts that may initially seem difficult.
I have also experienced this personally while teaching my son as he grows and learns. It has made me appreciate that good teaching is not simply about giving answers, but about understanding how each person thinks and helping them build confidence step by step.
I would like to teach because I enjoy sharing what I know and helping students develop a solid foundation, independent reasoning skills and a genuine understanding of the subject.

My approach is to build a strong foundation first, making sure the student understands why something works rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. From there, I adapt the lessons to the student's level, goals and learning style, whether they need help with fundamentals, exam preparation, problem solving or more advanced topics.
I like to explain difficult ideas step by step, using intuitive examples before moving towards more formal methods and challenging problems. Lessons can also be tailored towards the student's specific syllabus, homework or areas of weakness.
I graduated from NUS with First Class Honors in Applied Mathematics and Second Upper Honors in Computer Science, and later completed a PhD in Computational Biology at NUS under the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship.
I am comfortable teaching students at different levels, from children building their foundations to secondary, JC, university and adult learners. A typical lesson would be around 60–90 minutes, depending on the student's age, needs and concentration level.

Victor is my younger brother and the youngest in our family, yet he is perhaps the most academically inclined among us.
Through his intellect, diligence and perseverance, he excelled in his studies at NJC and later at NUS, where he pursued Mathematics and Computer Science and graduated with double honours. He subsequently went on to pursue his doctoral studies, and in 2015 was awarded his PhD through NUS and A*STAR.
What I admire most about Victor, however, is not simply his academic achievements. He has a remarkable ability to grasp and appreciate difficult mathematical concepts at a deep and intuitive level. At the same time, he understands how challenging mathematics can be for others. This enables him to identify with students who struggle with difficult problems and to explain mathematical ideas with humility and patience.
Within our family, Victor has naturally become our go-to person whenever we encounter a difficult mathematics problem. Even though I am 14 years his senior, I still turn to him whenever I come across a problem that I cannot solve.
And I think that says something special about him. Despite his accomplishments and formidable mathematical ability, Victor remains humble, approachable and always willing to help. To me, he is not only an accomplished mathematician and educator, but also a younger brother whom I deeply respect and admire.View more recommendations
