About Justin
Hey there!
My name is Justin, and I'm a high school math teacher from Buffalo, NY and am looking to help more students discover that math can be fun and interesting if you know what to look for. Most of my 10-year career has been spent teaching high school math to students with unique learning needs (autism, ADHD, learning disabilities), and I've found that there is a lot of overlap between the strategies that work in my classroom and the strategies that work in the tutoring space.
I use a laid-back approach to try to make students comfortable with difficult or confusing material - lots of humor and light-hearted moments, but also lots of learning and understanding. I've had a lot of success with tutoring in the past, and am looking forward to continuing that success here.

I am a teacher in Buffalo, NY and am dual-certified in mathematics and special education (grades 7-12 for both certifications). I began my career as a general education math teacher (mostly in high school geometry), but quickly realized that I worked well with smaller groups of students where I could focus more on each individual student's needs. This led me to special education, where I am now teaching math in an autism-specific program for students who can access grade-level curriculum, but need extra attention and support to be fully successful. I have found that the teaching methods and strategies that are successful in the special education environment also tend to work well in the tutoring space - being highly responsive to individual needs and abilities is one of the main skills I have developed as a special education math teacher.
