About Evan
My name is Evan Beachy. I am the bass trombonist of the Youngstown Symphony in Ohio. I graduated from Oberlin Conservatory in 2025 with a degree in trombone performance. There I studied under Dr. John Gruber, principal trombonist of the Akron Symphony in Ohio, as well as a frequent substitute with other major orchestras in the Midwest. I did not limit my studies to just trombone, though. At Oberlin I also picked up extensive experience playing tuba in the Oberlin Brass Ensemble, as well as playing euphonium in a tuba-euphonium quartet. I even played horn in the Oberlin Horn Ensemble for one semester! After playing so many instruments in my undergrad, I decided to focus on bass trombone in my master’s studies. I am currently studying bass trombone under James Markey at the New England Conservatory. Throughout my high school and undergraduate studies, it was my belief that performing in a professional orchestral ensemble was the highest achievable standard in trombone playing. I now know that, for me, there are other ways to achieve a high musical standard. Finally, after learning the value of teaching with the help of James Markey and Dr. John Gruber, I have come to realize that my new goal in life is to become a professional trombone instructor! I hope that I will be able to help you hone your trombone skills, or help you get started with any other brass instrument!

Lessons are a teaching experience for the student as well as the teacher. There is no “one method” that works for everyone. Thus, my goal as a teacher is to meet the needs of my students as they come. Through our lessons we will cover tone production, articulation, phrasing, range, and all other important aspects of tuba playing. We will do this by using various pedagogical and fundamentals books that will help the students grow as a musician. Finally, we will work on solos that will allow you to share your skills with the world!
