About Louis
I understand that choosing a tutor can be difficult and the myriad options may be overwhelming so I want to tell you a bit about myself, my teaching, and the subject-specific experience that I have so that you know that I am the right tutor for you.
I first began tutoring when I was just 16. As an academic scholar at secondary school many students would come to me to ask for help, but I simply didn't have the time to help all of them then and there. So I started a lunchtime tutoring programme where students could drop-in at anytime, between 1.30 and 2.30, and I (with the help of others I recruited) would endeavour to answer as many questions as possible. This is where I first experienced the joy of curating the "aha" moments. This programme would then run for the next 2 years until I finished secondary school.
Chasing this passion for helping others I joined Academic Excellence on my gap year, a Sydney-based tutoring company. I am proud to say that at this company I have a 100% A* rate for Chemistry results and an 83% A* rate for Maths results, over 14 students.
Now, as a university student (after obtaining A*'s in all my subjects (Maths, Chem, Econ) at A-level), I am keen to progress my teaching skills further.

My tutoring approach is centred around fostering engagement, understanding, and critical thinking. I encourage active participation and discussion to ensure students truly grasp the material. Additionally, I emphasise problem-solving skills, helping students approach challenges with confidence.
Lessons usually last 1 to 1.5 hours. I have found this duration allows for substantial learning without overwhelming students. However, I'm flexible and can adjust the lesson length according to the student's preferences and needs.
I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Chemistry at the University of Oxford and I have several years of tutoring experience across various age groups and skill levels.
I teach students ranging from high school to university level typically and so my students fall between the ages of 15 and 25. However, I'm open to working with motivated learners of all ages who are eager to engage with chemistry and mathematics.
In summary, my tutoring approach focuses on engagement, understanding, and application. I adapt my techniques to suit individual learning preferences and encourage active participation. With my qualifications, experience, and passion for teaching, I'm equipped to guide students of various levels and ages toward success in chemistry and mathematics.

Louis is a superb chemistry tutor. He really helped me to understand difficult A Level topics that I didn’t get the hang of at school, and I ended up with an A*. He explains things simply and clearly and I think he would be great for other students in need of a little extra help.
