About Clare
Piano has been my passion since the age of seven, but my career pathway has not been orthodox. I worked in publishing and journalism for twenty years but, after having children, returned to the piano, working from home and teaching and organising concerts at our daughters’ Primary School. I am currently researching music therapy, especially the benefits of music to people with dementia. Music speaks to the soul. It wakes you up.
I have always loved music and dance and feel that this passion is infectious when it comes to teaching and I really enjoy helping students hone their skills and become confident playing in front of friends, family and large audiences.

Music speaks to the soul! It wakes you up, so come and play, come and perform! Perhaps you want exam certificates? Perhaps you just want an audience? All is possible!
Piano has always been my passion, since my Mum found me trying to make a toy piano out of cardboard and split pins. I was eight years-old, and she finally realised I was hooked on the wonderful percussive sound of piano. If choosing the exam route, knowledge of Music Theory is vital for anyone progressing beyond Grade 5 (ABRSM: Associated Board of the Royal School of Music). If you are approaching Grade 5 piano, you might get a music scholarship to a good secondary school, whether private or state. Not all instrumental teachers have time to incorporate music theory into their practical lessons, but it is easy and fun and can be combined with singing, which is great for posture and confidence!
I have been teaching piano for 20 years and have helped children transition from primary to secondary school and attain music scholarships at prestigious schools such as St Marylebone Secondary School and Twyford Secondary School. I also have taught adults of all ages helping them improve their piano skills and confidence in performing in front of large audiences.
If you want to perform, I can help organise an audience at one of the community venues that I work with which would allow you to gain confidence and hone your skills free of charge. This will also allow you the opportunity to play on a prestigious Grand Piano!
My qualifications: Grade 5 ABRSM Music Theory, BA (Hons) English, Cambridge; PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education, Institute of Education, London); MA in Piano Teaching, topic: to exam, or not to exam? (UCL, University College London, dissertation available to read in UCL library).

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to introduce recommend Mrs. Clare Thompson for this position.
I have known Clare for approximately 18 years or more, as a longstanding piano student of hers.
She is a skilled, dedicated and committed classical piano teacher and a very warm, caring, friendly person. She also has a genuine love an appreciation for many other musical genres.
Clare shows great patience and an understanding of the needs and capabilities of her students, from various backgrounds and ages, resulting in positive relationships between her and students.
Some of her qualities as a teacher, which I admire, are to inspire and develop the student’s confidence, early on, through learning and playing piano pieces publicly, at concerts in the community.
Clare enjoys working toward a successful outcome, for whatever the level of each student she teaches, whether for examination purposes or for development of their own personal interest.
Therefore, with all of the above mentioned comments and without hesitation, I wish to conclude this recommendation for Clare Thompson by saying she would be a great asset and addition to your organization .
