About Eric

I came to Psychology the same way many of my students do, out of genuine curiosity about why people think and behave the way they do. What started as a personal interest became something I realised I could teach, and I've now spent 5 years helping A-Level Psychology students navigate one of the most fascinating but challenging subjects on the curriculum.

The biggest mistake I see AQA Psychology students make is not knowing how to translate their knowledge into exam-style answers. Understanding a topic and being able to answer a 16-mark question on it are two very different skills, and most students aren't taught the difference clearly enough. I focus heavily on closing that gap.

My lessons are built around past exam questions. Rather than just covering content, we work through real questions together so students can see exactly how to structure their answers, how to link different topics, and how to write evaluations that actually pick up marks. I explain everything in plain, everyday terms and use real-life examples to make concepts stick. Psychology makes a lot more sense when you can see it happening in the real world.

About the lesson

A-Level Psychology carries a reputation for being heavy, and it can be, with a lot of content to cover and a very specific way of writing answers that feels unfamiliar at first. My approach is to tackle that head-on by making the subject genuinely enjoyable before anything else.

Most students disengage from Psychology because it feels distant and clinical. I focus on making it relatable, bringing in real-life examples and everyday scenarios that show how Psychology is already present in how we think, feel, and behave. Once a student sees that, the content stops feeling like something to memorise and starts feeling like something they actually understand.

From there, we work on speaking the language of Psychology — learning how to express ideas in the way AQA examiners expect, but in your own voice rather than robotic textbook language. That balance between sounding like yourself and hitting the mark scheme is where most students find their confidence.

Lessons are built around AQA past paper questions so students get comfortable with the exam structure early. We focus especially on the extended 16-mark questions, research methods, and linking topics across the specification, the areas where marks are most commonly lost.
