About Mike
I have extensive experience as a Maths and Physics, having tutored at all levels from GCSE to undergraduate. I've always loved teaching - seeing a student have that 'a-ha!' moment is deeply satisfying, especially given my love of the subject.
I also have a 1st class honours in Theoretical Physics for an integrated Masters and undergraduate, from University College London (UCL). This degree, which is very similar to Mathematical Physics, means I have a strong understanding of both Maths and Physics.

*Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I am holding donation based, online group tuition primarily for A-Level Physics. They will be 2 hours long (with a break in the middle) and are particularly for low-income families and those students with a love of science. If you would like to join, please email (concealed information) *
In my experience, students are much more capable than they realise - excelling at maths and physics has a lot to do with having the confidence to pause, take a breath and think the problem through calmly. I therefore work with the student to find how they best understand problems, as we all think about problems in different ways.
I believe the value of a tutor is being able to tailor help to the individual student. As a tutor I therefore:
- Spend the first 1-2 hours speaking with the student to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and crucially how they best learn.
- After this I provide a lesson plan so that all involved know the plan going forward
- We will regularly go through past exam papers, to develop exam technique
