About James

Education is an incredibly rewarding profession, and the best moments of that career are seeing your students get the grades they were looking for, and thanking me for helping them achieve it.

But equally, the small moments when you see something that a student was previously struggling with finally click into place are just as rewarding.

Especially working with SEN students, who still are often misunderstood by many educators, allowing them to feel seen and understood, and thrive when given the right environment and when teaching is tailored to their needs.

I have an ADHD diagnosis myself, and am on the waiting list for an Autism assessment (though I'm pretty confident on the outcome), I have lived experience in dealing with the challenges faced by SEN students, and have a wide array of strategies that I have both used professionally, and in my own personal life.

As a tutor, I have a 5 star rating and over 1300 hours of tutoring experience on another platform. I have a Distinction Grade Masters Degree in Physics with a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Physics and Astrophysics, as well as 3 years of experience in the classroom, both helping students and supporting SEN students. On average, over the 3 years I've been tutoring, students have obtained one grade above their predicted grade*

I provide lessons with a laid back and friendly approach, to ensure the student is in an optimal mindset for learning and allows them to feel safe when challenged with harder questions.

The brain learns best when it gets stuff wrong, which is why it is important to create an environment in which a student feels safe to try things out and get things wrong, if you get something wrong, that's my job as a tutor to help them understand better and not the student's fault for not knowing, so we'll walk it back and go through it together without any judgement.

In terms of curriculum, I keep it flexible, as that is the primary benefit of tutoring, lessons should focus on what the student is struggling with, not taught to a fixed plan. But I focus on ensuring the student has strong foundational skills before learning the topics that build upon those foundations.

Revision methods and exam technique are also just as important to students as the subject content itself, so I include this as a part of my lessons.

*These values are obtained from values given by clients after receiving their grades, if the student had multiple predicted grades, the lower value is used, if the student obtained a lower grade, the increase is recorded as 0, final value is rounded to an integer value (from 1.1).

For the first 50 lessons booked, lesson rates are 50% off, rounded to the nearest pound.

Lessons are a standard hourly rate of £35 per hour.

5 Lesson Blocks are charged at £32.50 per hour.
10 Lesson Blocks are charged at £30.00 per hour.

Marking done outside of lessons will add an additional £5 per lesson.
