I will be recapping syllabus content for A Level/ GCSE students structured as revision sessions. At first some theory will be gone through to strengthen any lacking fundamentals and refresh any topics that haven’t been visited for a while. Then some past paper questions will be worked through with the tutee to test this understanding and practice the critical thinking needed to solve problems trickier problems. At the end of the lesson I will try to get the tutee to complete some past paper questions on their own whilst orally explaining their thought process and checking how they work individually, so that they will not be overcome by pressure when sitting an exam and can fully grasp the process required to solve a particular problem.
For tutees studying primary school or early secondary school content I will prepare a multiple lesson “syllabus” covering essentials in either algebra geometry or numeracy depending on the areas which need the most focus (this would be identified in a short test during the first lesson to ascertain the level the tutee is working at). The lessons will be structured in a way to ensure the problem solving and critical thinking of the tutee is always at work so that they are discovering mathematics for themselves and not just being lectured. This is so that the tutee develops a fascination in mathematics and feels the need to discover further content out of interest rather than necessity (making lessons more enjoyable and not just a chore).
