About Elise
I’m Elise, a former special education teacher and master’s-level reading and literacy specialist with over 10 years of experience supporting struggling readers. I’m trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and am currently completing Dyslexia Training Institute’s certification program to further deepen my expertise in dyslexia intervention and structured literacy instruction. I stay current with research and best practices in the Science of Reading to ensure students receive effective, evidence-based instruction.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with elementary and middle school learners, designing individualized instruction that builds strong foundational skills and confidence. I believe every student can learn to read with the right instruction, and my goal is to make reading clear, structured, and empowering for each learner.
Families appreciate my calm, supportive teaching style and my commitment to helping students feel capable and successful. I tailor every lesson to the student’s needs and use ongoing assessment to guide instruction and celebrate progress.

I use evidence-based, structured literacy instruction to help students build strong reading and spelling skills. My approach is based on the Science of Reading and the Orton-Gillingham method, which is especially effective for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties. Lessons are explicit, systematic, and multisensory, helping students connect sounds, letters, and meaning in a clear and supportive way.
A typical lesson includes a review of previously learned skills, explicit teaching of a new concept (such as syllable types or spelling rules), guided practice with reading and spelling, and brief application to connected text. I tailor every lesson to the student’s individual needs and adjust instruction based on ongoing assessment and progress monitoring.
I work with elementary through adult learners, including struggling readers, students with dyslexia, and those who need structured support to build confidence and fluency. What sets me apart is my background as a former special education teacher and literacy specialist, my research-based approach, and my focus on helping students feel capable, confident, and successful as readers.
