About Iain

I worked as a manager in the NHS for 14 years before moving to an academic role in Sheffield and then to the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham. I was a tutor on the Anderson programme for the NHS (an MSc in Healthcare Leadership), and have led modules on leadership on MSc, MPH, and MBA programmes.

About the lesson

How does theory and evidence help you to develop your leadership practice?

This is a question that has often been asked, particularly by students who are having difficulty writing about theory in assignments. Theory helps you to reflect on your experiences and helps you to develop insight - into yourself and the context in which you work. My approach is to help you to develop this insight by helping you to develop your understanding of theory and evidence, and the way you work with it. I have worked with this approach with NHS staff, overseas students, and MBA students.
