About Jim
I have been playing music most of my life, starting with piano at a young age. When I became a teenager I started learning guitar, but quickly found my way to the drum set. After spending about 5 years in the jazz band during college, studying Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms, I realized that I didn't want to be a jazz drummer. I took a break to play guitar and sing in a bluegrass band, and do some traveling. Now I've spent the last 3 years working on my double kick skills and my hand speed, playing the songs that got me excited when I was younger. Check out some of my recent playing here! I am strong on technical knowledge, including hand and foot technique and music theory. Snare drum rudiments, rock, blues, funk, jazz, double bass, and metal are all areas of experience. I teach all ages from kids up to adults. My best students are those who are excited and put the practice time in during the week. Let me know your goals and we can work together to reach them!
