About John J

Hi, I am John and have a very keen interest in science. I like to inspire students to take an interest in the subject, and also to want students to achieve the best possible grade they can. I am a fully qualified science teacher with a PhD in chemistry and a PGCE in science education. I have worked with and support students at many levels over the years from secondary school right up to PhD level. I have helped them to overcome their roadblocks holding them back and push on to achieve their desired outcomes. It is a great feeling when you see a student happy with achieving what they need to go on and pursue their own goals in life.

About the lesson

The following is the road map that I set out for All students to achieve success and get the grades that they desearve

Chemistry Tutoring Roadmap
Lesson 1 (free lesson)
Introduce myself and my credentials.

First lesson Goal: Establish baseline knowledge, identify gaps, and set clear academic targets.

Diagnostic quiz covering key topics (atomic structure, bonding, rates of reaction, etc.)

Review past school reports or mock exam results

Goal Setting

Define target grade (e.g. Grade 6+ for GCSE, A/B for A-level)

Identify college course requirements (e.g. Chemistry A-level for Medicine)

Study Plan Creation

Weekly timetable with topic breakdown to progress and build on foundations to achieve success.

Balance between theory, practice, and revision

Core Knowledge Building (Weeks 3–10)
Goal: Master the syllabus content with interactive and structured learning.

Topic-by-Topic Tuition

Use UK exam board specifications (AQA, OCR, Edexcel)

Focus areas such as;
GCSE: Atomic structure, bonding, chemical changes, energy changes, organic chemistry

A-level: Thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibria, redox, spectroscopy

Weekly Quizzes

Reinforce retention and identify weak areas

Goal: Develop exam technique and confidence in applying knowledge.

Past Paper Practice

Timed sessions with real exam questions

Focus on command words: “describe,” “explain,” “evaluate”

Mark Scheme Analysis

Teach pupils how to think like an examiner

Highlight common pitfalls and how to avoid them

Compare answers to top-grade responses
