About Timothy

I'm an experienced academic consultant with a love of teaching the natural sciences and mathematics. I've been helping ambitious students achieve top grades and gain entrance to the schools and universities of their dreams for a decade, with a +90% success rate. My speciality is with students age 14 and up. I teach mathematics (incl. further), chemistry and economics up to degree level, and the biological sciences including undergraduate students. Oxbridge applications and interview preparation are also a particularly popular service. Oxford graduate and postgraduate researcher in training at Cambridge. I'm a skilled communicator and always know how to get the best out of those I work with.

About the lesson

The first lesson begins with introductions and consultation. I want to understand the student's goals, preferences, interests, and style of communication. Together we'll outline a plan of action and further identify where work is most needed. After this, we'll follow a bespoke curriculum that mixes new material, revision, problem solving, verbal explanations, and homework review. Each lesson will have clear objectives - adapted to the student - and we'll mark our progress against this as we go. All work will take place on an interactive whiteboard that the student can download and revisit after the lesson. The most appropriate materials will depend on the subject, but priority is given to past paper practice as the best measure of improvement. Along with the exam board's curriculum, we'll make sure we stay focused on precisely what we need to know for the top grades. I'll compile all the questions and exercises most relevant for the lesson beforehand. Finally, for those keen students looking to go beyond the school curriculum, I make myself available out of hours to recommend extension material, enrichment, advice on study habits and anything else related.
