About Roisin
I am a recent Oxford BA Literae Humaniores II (Classics) Graduate. The 'II' in my degree title means I picked up both Latin and Ancient Greek at University, having studied neither beforehand (so I really understand the challenges of picking up difficult subjects in a short amount of time).
During my time at Oxford, I was the President of the Queen's College's Junior Common Room. This meant I was the representative for the entire student body and spoke in their behalf in front of the fellows at the college. In my time as President, I was an advocate for social change; I lobbied the college to introduce Halal meat and offer free sanitary products for all students, as well as improving the physical common room to give students a space to socialise.
This experience has given me a strong grasp of how to use persuasive language to put one's point across which is a great tool in any academic setting.

For teaching English as a second language my lessons will largely follow looking at typical conversations you'd encounter when speaking English and building vocabulary around this. I find this approach best when full immersion cannot be reached when learning how to speak a language.
For teaching Classics, I will focus on essay skills, as I scored the top in my year in Oxford in essay papers. I will first focus on making sure the student can build a strong introduction to their essays. Then, I will teach the student how to break down any type of question to create a solid and thorough essay for all exams.
For Oxbridge interview preparations, I believe the key to success is experiencing even more rigorous interviews before any Oxbridge interview. By pressing any weak points in preparations through rigorous testing of subject-based and personal statement-focused questions, any Oxbridge interview will feel like a breeze compared to preparations for it. I had this level of preparations for my own interviews and that is why I feel I succeeded in my Oxford application.
