About Jesko
Hello, my name is Jesko. (The name is Slavic, but I'm a German with creative parents.) I'm currently completing a research degree, and due to begin a DPhil, in Political Philosophy at Oxford. I also have a Master's degree, with distinction, from the London School of Economics.
I have three years of experience teaching academic writing, philosophy, and politics at university level, working with undergraduates at Hamburg University, Germany, and Smith College, Massachusetts.
I would be thrilled to help you get into, or graduate well from, a competitive university. I would also love to read the philosophical canon with you, from Plato to Marx; and I can help you improve your academic writing.
I aim to challenge my students while providing an encouraging and patient environment.

My lessons are best suited to two main groups.
The first group are motivated students at A-level or undergraduate level working in the humanities and social sciences. I can significantly increase your chances of getting into a competitive university by helping you with your application material and interview training—having successfully applied to both Oxford and the LSE at Master's and PhD level myself. I am also more than happy to help with dissertations or coursework, and can help you graduate with distinction.
The second group are people independently interested in philosophy. I am well-versed in the history of philosophy and would love to read the classic works with you, from Plato to Nietzsche to Marx. We work through texts closely together, and I can provide historical context and links to contemporary interpretations, so that little prior knowledge is required. As I am a native German speaker, I can also help you understand texts by Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, or Marx in their original form.
I am especially happy to work with international students, having studied and taught across German, US, and UK institutions.
A typical session runs 45–60 minutes and centres on (a) a piece of writing you have prepared, or (b) a philosophical text we have read in advance.
