About Rose

I achieved a first class degree and graduated top of my cohort in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, and an MSc in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies from the University of Oxford with Merit. I decided to pursue a career as a Barrister, and studied my GDL part-time achieving a distinction. I did this alongside working as a human rights and immigration paralegal, and secured pupillage and top scholarships for the bar course in my final year.

Law is a fascinating degree due to the intellectual stimulation it offers, and the impact it has on society. However, it is also a tricky degree. Alongside the usual textbooks and academic articles one must grapple with in most subjects, with law you must also contend with sometimes incomprehensible case law and statute. Further, to do well in law requires not only the ability to argue well in your essays, but also to really understand the law with precision and areas of complex legal contestation. You not only have academic essays, but also problem questions which demand their own exam technique and expert structure. It is also a subject that tends to be extremely exam heavy, especially on the GDL.

I achieved my grades through developing efficient ways of engaging with legal materials, creating case banks and exam ready notes throughout the course , and figuring out model exam essay structures. I know how stressful law degrees can be alongside all the work experience and pressures of life. I want to assist students to get the most out of their degree and pass on the knowledge I gained over a rewarding but challenging 8 years in higher education.

About the lesson

I have been in higher education for 9 years, having completed undergraduate and masters degrees in International Relations, and a two year Graduate Diploma in law. Having achieved distinctions throughout my studies, I have learned how to approach legal and non legal exams efficiently, and to research and write first class essays.

My lessons are aimed at undergraduate/postgraduate students seeking to further their knowledge of the law, or improve their assessment skills. I will take time to ensure I know what my student seeks to gain from their lessons, create a plan with them, and work towards their goals. My lessons range from 45 minutes to 1 hour, with a FREE introductory lesson.

I know how stressful higher education can be and I was often balancing my studies with numerous other commitments including work, so I hope to provide reassurance and assistance with managing examinations and coursework in a productive, and healthy way.

Furthermore, during my legal studies I worked as an immigration and human rights paralegal and took part in Mooting. I also achieved two top scholarships from Gray's Inn and secured pupillage on my final year of the GDL. I can also offer students advice as to interviews and legal research skills which may assist them with securing work experience and/or scholarships.
