About Joe
I am a highly qualified, yet friendly and approachable tutor, who enjoys sharing my love for science and maths with my students!
Teaching and mentoring students is a hugely rewarding and enjoyable experience for me, and I like to think that I can help anyone find science and maths less scary (and maybe even fun!).
Outside of science, I enjoy playing the piano and classical guitar, solving cryptic crosswords, and spend far too much time on Twitter....

I offer 1 hour lessons via Zoom, and teach mathematics, biology and chemistry up to A-level, and physics up to GCSE level. With each new student I offer a free consultation to discuss what the student wishes to get out of the tutoring sessions, what they find challenging with the subject, what exams they are preparing for etc.
My academic training consisted of a BA and MSci in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, followed by a DPhil (PhD) in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. I now work full-time as a professional editor for an academic science journal. I have also tutored and mentored undergraduates for three years at Oxford and Cambridge.
My teaching philosophy centres around the needs of the student, and the goal of achieving a deep understanding of scientific concepts (rather than merely rote-learning of material). I also strive to make every student as comfortable as possible in the sessions, as I know many students come to tutoring after negative experiences with a subject at school or university.
