I've been teaching maths for about 6 years, since junior school. I've found that a lot of people are taught to look at maths in a very strict way, and that helping them to find their own ways of working helps them gain better results and understanding of the subject.

Maths is a subject people often struggle with, so I do my best to tailor teaching to the student and what they need. For younger students, I ensure lessons are fun and revolve around their interests, and for older students we work on understanding what the question requires and how to best apply skills to each question.
For some students, we work mostly on wordy questions, learning to look through them and find the numbers, whereas others need to approach maths less like a science and more like a humanities subject; problem solving and investigation.
