About Adam

Hello! My name is Adam and I am an Oxford Philosophy graduate who has maintained a keen interest in the subject after graduating in 2020.

At degree level, I specialised in Early Modern Philosophy, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, Ethics and Political Philosophy, and am happy to teach any of these topics.

While studying for my degree, I developed an extensive portfolio of notes- mostly in the form of flashcards- and like to make use of these while teaching. However, I like debating far too much to restrict my lessons to learning words on a page. I also take pride in encouraging my students to argue their own points, and guiding them in how to argue them persuasively.

I believe that instilling confidence is the key to effective teaching. I often find that when a student is struggling with a certain topic, this is a result of their not knowing the basics well enough, and being unwilling to ask someone to go back over them. As a result, I like to adopt an open, non-judgmental form of teaching philosophy that focusses on grounding my students in the basics of a topic, and using this knowledge to guide them towards forming, and arguing for, their own perspectives on any given issue.
