About Jack
I recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Oxford. My A-levels are in Maths (A*), Further Maths (A*) and Physics (A*). I love to teach and inspire younger students and to help them achieve the grades they want, whether that has been through mentorship at school or private tutoring.
Having multiple younger siblings of varying ages has given me many years of experience at helping people to understand a topic to the point where their school homework becomes "too easy", leading to me having to use some imagination to come up with more difficult questions to really test understanding and application.
I've previously spent time mentoring prospective Physics applicants on what to expect from the infamous Oxbridge interview process and what tutors are looking for in students to give them the upper hand, settle some nerves and boost their probabilities of a successful application. Feedback from these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive with students returning from their interviews knowing they impressed.

I provide classes at both GCSE and A-level standard for Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I'm looking for students who want to improve and are motivated to put that extra bit of work in to get the results they are looking for. My classes are tailored to the student's ability and will help them gain confidence in the subject. I also provide classes on the PAT (Physics Aptitude Test) and Oxbridge interview preparation for Physics/Engineering university applicants.
The pace of classes will vary but I'm careful not to advance too quickly. I have found in my education that building on a solid foundation is one of the keys to success with more difficult topics, so with this in mind I make sure that something is understood in depth before moving on.
Coming from a state school background and being the only one in my year at school to go on to study at Oxbridge, I am keen to pass my methods and techniques on to other students to assist their education and set them on the path to success.
I like to have a friendly and informal relationship with my students so that they feel comfortable to ask any questions along the way and don't feel under pressure like they might experience in a school environment.
Classes will revolve around exam-style questions in the specific topics that the student finds difficult. This helps students to get familiar with the sorts of problems they might face in the exam and helps me to highlight the key areas that need to be taught in more depth so there are no surprises on exam day!
Interview preparation classes will firstly discuss the correct way to approach the Oxbridge interviews and what tutors are looking for in a student. Then we will have a mock interview using some of the topics and questions that were used in my interviews and finally a review of this to discuss some of the things that were good and some things that could be done better for the real interview.

Jack has a very approachable manner putting people at ease and breaking down barriers to understanding. Explanations of concepts or answers to questions are pitched according to the enquirer inviting further questions until understanding is achieved and confidence gained.
With 2 younger siblings of varying ages, Jack has shown time and time again how patient and creative he can be when it comes to teaching tricky concepts.
